Avenged’s new album Sevenfold is “very much influenced by Kanye West”.
Frontman M. Shadows has revealed that the heavy metal band’s long-awaited sequel to 2016’s âThe Stageâ draws inspiration from the 44-year-old hip-hop superstar, as well as soul and jazz music.
In an interview with Metal Hammer magazine, Shadows said, âThe thing with Kanye is that he’s inspired by such great soul music.
âI didn’t grow up with that stuff – my dad listened to Boston and Alice Cooper, I didn’t have that taste of black music and old soul. So, delving deep into jazz musicians⦠we’re not trying to make a jazz record, but the chord changes and progresses open our eyes. “
The “Seize the Day” rocker explained that the band had been sitting on the record for 12 months waiting to add strings, but the COVID-19 pandemic has put a wrench in the works.
He added: âThe record has been recorded for a year, but we couldn’t put the real strings on it, because we couldn’t fly to Prague. When an orchestra has to distance itself socially and it doesn’t not sit side by side, they can go out of tune, and we’ve finally come to a place where we can use this 70-piece orchestra however we wanted. “
The 40-year-old star – whose real name is Matthew Charles Sanders – previously teased that the LP would see them heading in “a whole new direction, and that’s nothing like anything we’ve done.” That’s all I’m going to say about it: it’s overkill, and it’s very eclectic and wild!
The ‘Hail to the King’ group previously suggested addressing the issues that plague the world on their eighth release.
Guitarist Zacky Vengeance, 40, previously said: “I think it’s important for us to lend our voices to what shapes the world socially and politically.”
