McFly started recording his new album without Tom Fletcher.
“Five Colors In Her Hair” hitmakers are working on the follow-up to 2020’s “Young Dumb Thrills”, but Tom’s current stint on “Strictly Come Dancing” means teammate Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter and Danny Jones had to come in. in the studio without him.
Drummer Harry – whose wife Izzy gave birth to their third child Lockie last month – told The Sun’s Weird column: “It’s me, Danny and Dougie in the studio, and now just Danny and Dougie because I’ve been with the baby.
“The progress has been tremendous. We just need to hear Tom’s voice, and then it’s over.”
The band expect to release the LP next year, and Tom’s absence could mean fans are hearing more from Dougie and Danny than usual.
Harry explained, “We finished the drums before going on tour and I did a song again after the tour.
“Dougie finished all his bass and he did a lot of vocals because Tom wasn’t there and we just wanted to record the melodies and cut them. Danny did all his vocals and everything.”
Meanwhile, the group is “really excited” about the upcoming collection.
He added, “Everything sounds great, we’re really excited about it. I’ve really never been so excited about new music.”
Over the summer, Harry opened up about the direction of the album and revealed that they were embracing their more rock roots by going back to “more guitar, drums and bass” rather than sound. “classic pop”.
He said: âYoung Dumb Thrills always had guitars and drums, but there was a little different programming and approach to recording.
âThis time, from day one of writing and recording, all of our gear is in place.
âSo if Tom brought a song in the morning, we’re going to play it straight as a band to get parts that way. We also wrote songs in this environment and wrote riffs.
