Paolo Nutini set for third UK number 1 album E! News UK

Paolo Nutini is on course to claim his third UK number 1 album, with Last Night in the Bittersweet currently outscoring its nearest competitors 4:1.

The 35-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album marks his first release in eight years and tracks to score him a hat-trick of number 1 albums. Paolo previously topped the Official Albums Chart with Sunny Side Up in 2009 and Caustic Love in 2014.

Aiming for a number two entry this week, the Florida-formed rock band Shinedown, with their seventh studio album Planet Zero. The record could also prove a career high and first UK Top 5 hit for the band of Brent Smith, Barry Kerch, Zach Myers and Eric Bass. Their latest album, 2018’s Attention Attention, peaked at number 8.

An unprecedented new record from founding members of British reggae legends UB40 Ali Campbell and Astro is heading for a midweek No. 6 debut. Recorded between shutdowns, the collection of covers and original songs was due to be released last year, but was postponed following Astro’s passing in November 2021. Their latest collaborative album A Real Labor of Love, recorded with former bandmate Mickey Virtue, reached Number 2 in 2018.

Elsewhere, Nick Cave’s Seven Psalms, a collection of spoken word to music recorded with longtime collaborator Warren Ellis, could provide the Australian singer-songwriter with his eighth UK Top 10 solo album to date (8 ).

The release of Imagine Dragons’ Mercury Collection – Act 1 and Act 2 could see the US pop-rock band enjoy their sixth UK Top 10 album, currently on course to land at number 9.

Elvis Presley’s ELV1S: 30 tracks from the Number 1 Hits collection to return to the Top 20 after the release of the biopic Elvis (16) directed by Baz Luhrmann. The album topped the charts when it was initially released in 2002.

Northern Irish rockers Ash were able to revisit their 1977 Top 40 debut album thanks to a vinyl reissue (27). Originally released in 1996, the record peaked at number 1.

Adele’s 30 climbs 46 places to number 28 midweek, following his performances at BST Hyde Park over the weekend and, finally, 30-year-old British hip-hop artist Pak-Man is eyeing his first-ever Top 40 album British with Big Pakachino, currently at number 31.
