Usher plans to release a new album this year.
While the U Got It Bad hitmaker hasn’t released a record since 2016’s Hard II Love, in 2019 he posted a photo of himself in a music studio next to a whiteboard with the words Confessions 2.
In a new interview with Billboard, Usher didn’t confirm whether or not he was developing a sequel to his hit 2004 album Confessions, but insisted that fans won’t have to wait long for tracks.” unique”.
“I’m not where I’m going to sign the album title at this point. But I’m working on an album, and it would be very smart to say it’s coming out this year. That’s probably too vague now to figure out if it’s going to be in the Confessions vein or if it’s going to be something else. It’s always kind of a moving target, because I’m just starting to put together a streak,” he explained. “I want to put together a body of work that speaks to all the people that I’ve been able to capture as fans, but that will also be something unique for me and for R&B music that doesn’t just live in a single space.”
In addition to the album, Usher has a series of Las Vegas residency shows lined up at the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace.
And after the Covid-19 lockdown, the superstar can’t wait to get back in front of the public once again.
“When I think of Vegas, I think of Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis (Presley) – those are the people who inspired me to play in that space. I had a lot of time to think about the show , and I really appreciate the added value of being immersed in a theatrical experience,” the 42-year-old said.
