Lorde sat down for an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this evening. She talked about her new album Solar energy, which releases on August 20, and has promised that she will return to the series for a live performance soon. Watch the interview below.
Stephen Colbert mentioned that he was not allowed to show the album artwork and asked him how the artwork came into being. âMy friend just took it,â she said. “It was just me jumping over a friend on the beachâ¦ It’s kinda hardcore, but it was so happy for me.” It was innocent, playful, and a little wild. Colbert replied, “If I had an ass like that, I would jump over someone too.” “
Colbert also mentioned her tour and asked her if she can’t wait to be in front of the audience again. âI’m really excited, yeah,â she said. âIt doesn’t seem real, but I’m very excited. This album is so happy and big and such a great thing to experience with a bunch of people, so I’m glad the timing worked out so we could do a tour.
They also spoke about the time Colbert played a prank on her in Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s backyard. When Colbert asked for forgiveness, she said: “we will get there”. They also spoke about New Zealand’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. âWe are fortunate to have a truly calm and stable government,â she said as the New York crowd laughed.
Earlier this month Lorde shared “Solar Power”, her first new music since its release. Melodrama in 2017. The song arrived with a music video co-directed by Lorde and Joel Kefali. In addition to sharing the album’s release date and tracklist, Lorde has announced a 2022 tour with dates across North America, Oceania and Europe.
