Win CD copies of Son Umbrella’s new album – Music News

A unique and wonderful set of songs titled Paris n’existe pas by Son Umbrella has just been released thanks to a partnership between French label Europop 2000 and American cohort 80 Proof Records. This project, a reverie of a classic era of French music featuring a fascinating and unexpected combination of performers, was first released on digital CD and in limited edition with a crowdfunded vinyl version. A unique NFT single with exclusive artwork and music will also be released.

His Umbrella was born with Orwell’s Jérôme Didelot, who have released a string of artful pop albums over the past two decades, including 2020’s Parcel Brillant. Didelot wrote these new songs to evoke late 1960s Paris. by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian, duet albums by Mark Lanegan) leads the outstanding cast as guest vocalist. Jah Wobble (PiL, Invaders of the Heart), Martin Carr (The Boo Radleys, Brave Captain) and famed French engineer/producer Yann Arnaud also appear providing remixes of songs from the project. Japanese singer Sugar Me completes the list of performers by singing on an alternate version of one of the songs.

Acclaimed French artist Charles Berberian (known for his comic strips, multiple film posters and magazine covers, including The New Yorker) created original artwork for the album cover, as well as a unique second piece that will only be available through a single NFT.

The main song and the title song, a painful masterpiece of sweet French pop, explore Paris like a metaphor. A place steeped in dreams and fantasies inaccessible to all but a few. Does this Paris exist? Perhaps. Maybe not.
